Creative Media Production Level 2 at Wiltshire College

Course description

If you want to develop a career in media and are interested in making films, recording music, writing or working on the web, communicating through a range of media, then this is the course for you!

Course content

This is a practical course that will give you experience of using a variety of different media. You will use a wide range of equipment and software from HD cameras to multimedia software. Project work and assignments will help you find your strengths and broaden your knowledge and interests in the media field. This course will give you increased confidence in the presentation of your work and enable you to make choices about future directions.

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, or equivalent (or successful completion of a relevant subject at Level 1)

Assessment

You will be expected to continue researching and practicing your skills outside class sessions. It is expected that students will be enthusiastic enough to want to use their own time to reach their full potential.
There are a number of assignments over the year which alternate between major projects such as producing a teenage magazine and short tasks such as making a presentation about a film. Functional skills maths and English are assessed by exam.
The final qualification will be a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production.

Future opportunities

Most students, approximately 90%, from this course have progressed onto Level 3 Extended Diplomas such as Art and Design, Music Technology, Music Practice, Media Production (Film and TV) and Games Development. Some students have benefited from this qualification to get on next level courses in Business, IT and Public Services.
Subsequently several have gone onto University.

The media industry in this county employs hundreds of thousands of people in both specialist roles such as camera operators or sound engineers as well as general jobs such as researchers, managers and drivers.

The course will show you the broad range of creative industries you can potentially enter.
