Course description

About to leave school? Are you an aspiring web designer? Want to learn coding and web development skills? Interested in creating social media campaigns? The creative and digital industries offers access to some fantastic career opportunities, working with exciting projects where no two days are the same! If you love the idea of designing great websites, learning how to code or creating social media campaigns, this is the course for you.

Course content

The course begins with a Level 3 Diploma achievable at the end of Year 1. Successful completion at the required level, plus good attendance and punctuality, will lead to continuation into Year 2. The Level 3 Extended Diploma is achievable at the end of Year 2. You will study a variety of units from the UAL specification, including designing and building websites, create social media campaigns, creating designs for print, etc.



Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at A*-C (new grade 9-4) including English and Maths
4 GCSEs at A*-C (new grade 9-4)
Level 2 Functional Skills in either English or Maths, and
Grade D (new grade 3) or Level 1 Functional Skills in the other

Merit Level 2 Diploma, or equivalent, with Level 2 English Language and Maths

A portfolio of work



You will be assessed through a series of practical and academic assignments that count towards your final grade. Your tutor will provide you with regular developmental feedback and maintain a record of assessment.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.
Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.
Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course

Further study

The Creative & Digital Industries course has been specifically created with Wakefield College’s CDIT Foundation Degrees in mind. Students can progress onto our FdA Web Design or Computing courses.
