Travel and Tourism Level 3 at North Hykeham Joint Sixth form

Course description

This is a vocational course, which means it relates to an area of work in this case the travel and tourism world. It can be studied over one or two years to earn an equivalent AS or A2 qualification. The course develops the knowledge and understanding of the way in which travel and tourism is organised, financed and operated in the local, national and international contexts. The course is worth one Advanced Level and is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

This is achieved through a variety of approaches including visits with local organisations, case studies and research. In order to be successful on this course you must

Have good motivation and self-discipline

Enjoy carrying out independent research

Prefer coursework to examinations.

The first four units or work covered include Investigating Travel &Tourism, The Business of Travel & Tourism, The UK as a destination and Customer Service. There are two further units which are selected from a choice of six options.

Entry requirements

GCSE English grade C is required. If students have studied Business or Travel &Tourism at Key Stage 4, a B/Merit is required.
