Performing Engineering Operations (Mechanical) Level 2 Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This qualification is aimed at learners who intend to progress to follow Apprenticeship and Advanced Modern Apprenticeship programmes ; career progression to Level 3 in Mechanical engineering and wish to develop their Maths And English plus provide supporting evidence towards their competencies of the NVQ. The course is made of two components (Technical certificate Diploma and an NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations). The technical certificate provides the underpinning knowledge for the theory to put into practice for the second component (NVQ) being practically based in the workshops.

Course content

Working Safely in an Engineering Environment. - Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering. - Using and Communicating Technical Information. - Producing Components Using Hand Fitting Technique. - Preparing and Using Lathes for Turning Operations. - Preparing and using Milling Machines. As part of your learning programme you will also attend the following session: Maths (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in Maths) English (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English Language) Study Skills 1:1 Tutorials Enrichment activities

Entry requirements

4 GCSE at grade D or above including Maths, English Language & Science or Level 1 PEO. Progressing learners must also have a Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


This vocational programme is assessed through online tests, workshop activities, and set assignments.
