ESOL Foundation Learning 16-18 years at Stoke on Trent College
Foundation Learning courses are available for 16-18 year olds.These courses are for young people who:• Have not attended school in England• Have attended school but have not achieved any formal qualifications• Need to develop their English language to enable them to progress to a vocational qualificationThese courses are called Foundation ESOL, we offer one year courses that prepare you for progressing onto a vocational programme or further study in English. You will also work on English, Maths, ICT and personal and social development.
This is a full-time course that Stoke-on-Trent College offers to 16-18 year olds for whom English is not their first language. The programme is designed to give these students the language and study skills necessary to access 6th Form or mainstream FE, and provide them with the essential skills to live and work in the UK. Students attend ESOL classes at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1 and prepare for the ESOL City and Guilds qualifications. The rest of the programme includes Numeracy, ICT, and Citizenship and where appropriate, a Vocational qualification in one of the following: Care, Childcare, ICT, Construction, Motor Vehicle, Catering and Hair.
No formal requirements, but you will have a pre-induction interview/ assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.
You will gain City and Guilds qualifications in Speaking and Listening and Reading and Writing. You will also have the chance to gain other qualifications such as Functional Skills ICT and Maths qualifications.
We will provide you with encouragement and support to progress onto vocational or academic courses.
In order to progress to main stream College courses and Higher Education, your level of English needs to be at least Entry Level 3.
