Beauty Therapy NVQ2 at Harrow College

Course description

During the course you will study Basic facials, eye care treatments, make up, manicure and pedicure, waxing, Health and Safety, promotion of products & services and related Anatomy and Physiology.
You may also study English and Maths alongside this qualification to help improve your employability opportunities.

Course content

During the course you will study Basic facials, eye care treatments, make up, manicure and pedicure, waxing, Health and Safety, promotion of products & services and related Anatomy and Physiology. You may also study English and Maths alongside this qualification to help improve your employability opportunities.

Theory lessons are taught by various student centred methods and lectures. You will produce evidence using a range of different methods including assignments, oral questions and practical assessments. Practicals will be demonstrated and students will be expected to work on each other, and to work on clients when ready to be assessed in a realistic work environment. You will need to spend time on independent study while not at college.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A-D or NVQ level 1 in Beauty Therapy or another level 1 qualification. Candidates would also need to complete a Profiler Assessment test in Maths and English, and a written and practical assessment. , Candidates need good communication skills and have a calm and professional approach as they will be working with clients. They will be assessed on their skills and knowledge in Beauty Therapy.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course on both practical and theory work; you will also be assessed through assignments, written tests, work packs and oral questions. You will build a portfolio of evidence based upon practical treatments carried out in the realistic working environment (beauty salon), which is internally and externally verified. You will also be required to pass written exams set by the awarding body.

Future opportunities

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Theatrical, Media hair and Make Up or go onto further study programmes such as Nail Extensions or Complimentary Therapies.
