Music Technology Rock School Level 2 Diploma at South Downs College

Course description

This subject is designed for students who want to learn how to create music using computer software, learn how to use a recording studio and develop awareness of all aspects of the music industry.

Course content

You will study the following subjects on your course:Working in the Music Industry

  • Professional Development in the Music Industry
  • Planning and Creating a Music Product
  • Exploring Computer Systems Used by Musicians
  • DJ Technology and Performance
  • Producing a Musical Recording
  • Sound Operations for Stage Performance


Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language or Mathematics and a good school profile, with real commitment to this area of work.


You will study seven units over the year and you will be assessed on written and practical assignments.

On completion of your Level 2 Diploma you will be given a Pass, Merit or Distinction in each subject area.

Future opportunities

Successful completion at Merit level or above will enable the student to go on to either the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music Practice or Technology, or another Level 3 course.

This course forms the introduction to careers in the music industry, although most students will need to go on to another course to increase skills.

A pair of headphones is compulsory, as you will be working with music on computers.
