Countryside and Environment Level 3 Diploma at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is designed for students who wish to develop a comprehensive overview of the countryside, wildlife and conservation industry - encompassing practical techniques, technical skills and core knowledge. It will prepare you for a range of careers including supervisory and management positions with relevant experience. Alternatively, it provides an ideal progression route to Higher Education and the Foundation degree in Countryside Management validated by Oxford Brookes. It suits school leavers, progressing Level 2 students, career changers and mature students and caters for wide interests within the industry.

Course content

The course is divided into a number of modules (Up to a total of 120 credits)

Year one Units:

  • Wildlife populations, ecology and conservation
  • Tree planting and aftercare
  • Business management
  • Work experience
  • Plant and soil science
  • Estate skills

 Year two Units:

  • Investigative project
  • Freshwater and wetland management
  • Understanding fisheries management
  • Understanding land use and environmental issues
  • Understand greenwood crafts
  • Understand woodland management

This course is delivered through classroom-based lessons, practical sessions and tutorials.

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed a Level 2 qualification in horticulture or equivalent or enter directly if you possess five GCSEs in the A* – C range.

Entry is also subject to a successful interview.

Future opportunities

Progression with further practical experience to supervisory level jobs within Government and Non- Government organisations, Conservation charities, Wildlife Trusts and private companies. Alternatively you may progress to the FdSc & Honours degree in Countryside Management.
