ICT Practitioners BTEC at QE Academy Trust

Course description

This is a two‐year course focusing on the exciting field of digital media & computer Systems and is equivalent to a full A2 with the same UCAS points attached. The course is designed to be work‐related and develop a specific set of practical skills.

Course content

The course is made up of:  
TWO compulsory units
- Communication and Employability Skills for IT
- Computer systems

FOUR specialist units
- Digital Graphics and Computers
- Website Production and Management
- Computer Animation
- Programming

Passion and interest in Digital Media and Computer Systems

Assessment

All units are graded as 'PASS', 'MERIT' or 'DISTINCTION'. Assessment is by practical activities, which are assessed by the school and externally moderated by Edexcel. Grade boundaries
459 points or below is a PASS
460 – 499 points is a MERIT
500 – 519 points is a DISTINCTION  
520 points and above is a DISTINTION

Future opportunities

The Subsidiary Diploma in IT qualifies for UCAS points and as such can lead into degree‐related subjects in ICT and Computer Science. There are many opportunities to enter the IT sector including technical and software sales, applications programmer, systems analyst, computer trainer, network engineer, computer operator, web developer, technical support worker and graphic designer.
