Course description

At Buxton and Leek College Creative Media Production can offer you the range of skills you need to enhance your future potential ready for the exciting and competitive world of Media. You will learn a range of subjects from TV and Film Production to Print Design, Web Design to Stop Motion Animation, PR and Marketing to Radio Production and moreā€¦ 

With ex-industry professionals as your lecturers from the TV and Print industries, you will gain a realistic insight into the media industry with industry standard assignment briefs to equip you with the necessary skills for future employment or University. The Media studio is equipped with a brand new Mac suite with all the industry standard software you will need. You will have access to professional equipment to flex your creativity for your projects. 

You will be familiar with the work of visiting professionals, who give advice on briefs for Marketing, Web Design, Journalism or provide Film and Animation workshops. There are visits to interesting and exiting places to record broadcasts, watch TV being made or other media activities. 

During the last two years the media group have taken part in a variety of enrichment and extra curricular activities including competitions, watching live TV studio recordings, created a radio advert and news bulletin with Peak FM, a workshops with a film director. Our students have even taken the media promotional images for this leaflet, and other marketing posters and website! 

Assessment

A range of methods of assessment are used including; written assignments, presentations and media productions. Units are combined to contribute towards major media productions, which mainly form the second year of study.

Future opportunities

With the opportunity to experience a range of media sectors, you can choose from a wide range of degrees from Digital Communications, Media Production, Broadcast Media, Journalism, Radio, Print, Photography, Marketing and Events management, and more. Following on to a career in your chosen or related sector. Some of our students have successfully started their career straight from college.

    • Situated right in the town centre of Buxton in the magnificent Dome, our Buxton Campus provides an inspirational setting for our vocational courses.  

      The campus boasts a fine dining restaurant, hair and beauty salons and a bistro café area at The Dome. All the commercial operations are open to students, staff and the general public, helping to provide real world experiences.

      Our Skillsbase Training Centre, based at Harpur Hill on the outskirts of Buxton is the perfect location for motor vehicle, construction, logistics, warehousing and painting and decorating.
