German A Level at Weymouth College

Course description

Choosing to study A Level German at Weymouth College means enhancing your knowledge of the culture and language of Germany. German is the first language of over 100 million people worldwide and is spoken in over 40 countries. It is the most widely spoken language in Europe and is commonly known as the ‘business language’ due to Germany’s large and fast growing economy and trading links. As well as learning to communicate in German both orally and in writing and you will also be able to improve your reading and listening skills and make the most of the enrichment activities available.

Course content

As well as learning to communicate in German both orally and in writing, you will also improve your reading and listening skills. You will also benefit from extra speaking tuition from a native speaker. AS units include: • Media • The Family • Popular culture • Healthy living A2 units include: • Environment • Contemporary social issues

Entry requirements

• At least 5 GCSEs at a minimum of grade C with B in German and C in English. • Knowledge of other languages is helpful and relevant experience will be considered.

Future opportunities

Students who complete this course could apply to degree courses such as BA (Hons) International Languages, BA (Hons) Business, and many others at Universities across the UK.
