Information and Creative Technology BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Leyton Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is about making information technology and creative technology-based products. You will learn to use a computer to create graphics, spreadsheets, web pages and mobile applications. Your knowledge of computer technology and the online world will be assessed by online examinations. You will also build up a web-based portfolio demonstrating your creative skills in computing.

Course content

The course is made up of eight units. The three core units provide a general foundation, and the specialist units introduce learners to particular topics in more depth.

All students will take three core units:

  • The Online World (externally assessed)
  • Technology Systems (externally assessed)
  • A Digital Portfolio (internally assessed)

And specialist units from a selection e.g. Mobile Apps Development, Creating Digital Animation, Graphics and Video. The units are coursework-based.

Entry requirements

A BTEC Introductory Diploma plus at least GCSE English at grade D or above/Level Functional Skill equivalent and a Maths qualification at level 1 or above. Four GCSEs at grade D and above, including Maths and English as above.

Assessment

Exam Board - Pearson

25% of the qualification is externally assessed. There will be an online test which is set and marked by Edexcel (Pearson).

Future opportunities

This course introduces features that are fully aligned with requirements for progression to further study at Level 3, an apprenticeship or consider employment in areas involving the use of IT.
