Course description

Classical Civilisation is a course that takes the student to the very foundations of European civilisation. It offers the opportunity to study a wide range of topics, including literature, art and architecture, religion, philosophy, drama, society and psychology. Because of its wide scope it combines well with virtually all other A Level subjects.

Course content

AS Level
Unit 1 Women in Greece and Rome
Unit 2 Homer’s Odyssey and Homeric society

A2 Level
Unit 3 Greek Tragedy
Unit 4 Virgil’s Aeneid

Entry requirements

No prior knowledge of this subject is required, and you do not need to have studied Latin. You should however enjoy reading and not find essay writing too difficult.

Assessment

100% examination.
