Food and Nutrition at The Parker E-act Academy

Course content

GCSE Food and Nutrition enables students to make informed written and practical nutritional choices in the investigation and preparation of food in relation to set themes.  Students are able to improve their practical skills and knowledge in food preparation.  The groups are mixed ability and will be required to provide their own ingredients on a regular basis.

Entry requirements



Over the two years students work invididually and in groups on mini practical projects and related written work.  The first two terms in Year 10 introduce the students to a variety of skills through practical activities.  During term 2 students are set specific themes for coursework tasks and they need to provide evidence of research, planning, reference to nutitrional values, making and evaluation.  During the course of Year 10 they wil have the opportunity to complete 2-3 tasks and in so doing the highest mark will go towards the final overall grade.In Year 11 students will be set a Board Prescribed Task to be completed within a timed 10 hr period.An example of BPT - "There are a wide range of fruits and vegetables available to the consumer.  Both are important to health and add interest to any diet.  Investigate and develop a range of fruit and vegetable dishes to encourage healthy eating.  This must be supported by written and investigational work".Students take a 2 hours written examination during the examination perdiod.  The final GCSE grade is based on Coursework Task 30%, Board Prescribed Task (10 hour exam) 40% and Theory Examination 30%.
