Sociology A level at The Thomas Aveling School
Sociology aims to provide students with an understanding of contemporary society so that they can develop sociological skills as they examine evidence and issues that affect modern society. Students will learn how society influences our social behaviour, culture and our ideas. They will study how and why people interact together, the nature of social processes, and will explore aspects of social change which shape society.
Unit 1: Education with Theory and Methods
Unit 2: Topics in Sociology
Unit 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods
A minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) grades A* -C , including English.
No prior learning of Sociology is necessary for students to follow this course.
Unit 1 written paper = 33.3% of A Level
Unit 2 written paper = 33.3% of A Level
Unit 3 written paper = 33.3% of A Level
This course is suitable for anyone who would like to go onto further study at University. It also provides a worthwhile course for candidates in terms of general education and lifelong learning. Equally, material studied would be useful for candidates intending to pursue careers in the field of Social Sciences including; Social Work, Teaching, The Health Service and The Police.
