English Language and Literature A level at Enfield County School

Course description

The course is suitable for those students  who find it difficult to choose between taking English Language or English Literature to a higher level.  It is also suitable for those who would like to study English for one additional year and to take an AS at the end of that year.    

Students will explore non-fiction and spoken texts, as well as the language of poetry and plays.  They  will approach reading as a writer and writing as a reader, as well as working on an independent study which will allow them to choose their own texts.

Entry requirements

Those students who have studied GCSE English Language and Literature will find that the skills they have learned will prove a valuable foundation for further studies at this level.  We require GCSE grade C or above in English Language and English Literature.

Assessment

The course is assessed through examinations and coursework.

Future opportunities

English is a popular qualification for a wide range of courses in higher education or for further study; it is directly valuable in areas such as education, publishing, journalism, media and all professional careers requiring sound communication skills.
