Hospitality Diploma Level 2 at Gloucestershire College
This course gives you the opportunity to gain great cookery and service skills and a understanding of the theory behind them.
This course is designed to give you a strong foundation in hospitality that you can build on.
There is a large practical element to this course.
The course aims to develop your confidence.
The qualifications you will study are the City and Guilds Principles in Food Preparation and Cooking and Food and Drink Service, the Level 2 Award in Food Safety and either functional skills or GCSE qualifications in English and Maths.
We focus and develop the key skills that the employers are looking for at this level. These include
- personal hygiene and appearance
- customer service
- excellent knife skills
- excellent hygiene practice
- ability to be organised, planned and methodical.
You will be given the opportunity to work in our high quality commercial operations, take part in events with the very best chefs in Gloucestershire and undertake paid work experience at Cheltenham Races.
You will be timetabled to undertaken real work at Cheltenham’s highly regarded Chelsea Brasserie with whom we are delighted to have entered a partnership with.
You will need to have 3 GCSE's at grade D or above. Selection is completed following a successful interview, and initial assessment.
There will be on-going assessment during the course which will include practical and theoretical tests. You will need to pass each of these in order to progress onto the next stage of the programme.
From this course there are many options. Some students will choose to go into higher education, either an HND or a Foundation Degree; others will join company training schemes and follow a structured course for up to two years; others will find work within the industry as a junior supervisor.
