Course description

Would you like to learn how to apply Make-up and style hair for fashion, beauty, editorial looks? Level 1 Hair and Make-up is a one year course designed for those with little to no experience, who want to gain the knowledge and skills required for a career in the Make-up industry. This enables learners to progress to level 2 Hair and Make-up. Under the guidance of creative and diligent tutors you will gain the practical and theoretical knowledge to create beautiful Make-up and hair designs. This course if fast paced creative and delivered to strict time scale. You will need to be highly motivated and be able to work positively as a member of a team and independently.

Course content

This course is an introduction to the hair and beauty/make-up sector. There are two routes within this course.

The Level 1 hair and beauty sector route covers the following:

• Presenting a professional image in a salon

• Follow health and safety in the salon

• Working with others in the hair and beauty sector

• Create a hair and beauty image

• Colour hair using temporary colour

• Shampooing and conditioning

• Styling men's hair

• Styling women's hair Hair plaiting

• Skin care

• Provide basic manicure

• Provide basic pedicure

• Nail art application

Or you can choose, the Level 1 hair and make up route comprises of the following units:

• Introduction to the hair and beauty sector

• Presenting a professional image in a salon

• Follow health and safety in the salon

• Working with others in the hair and beauty sector

• Create a hair and beauty image

• Colour hair using temporary colour

• Shampooing and conditioning

• Styling men's hair

• Styling women's hair

• Hair plaiting

• Skin care Basic make up application

• Themed face painting

• Nail art application

Entry requirements

All methods are selected to meet the levels and ability of each individual student. It is desirable but not essential to have GCSEs within Literacy and Numeracy, or successful completion of a Level 1 course in a related subject area. Prospective students may be asked to sit an initial assessment to determine their current levels of literacy and numeracy, if they do not fit into the above category. It is essential that applicants demonstrate an appropriate level on inter-personal skills at interview as this is a customer focused industry.

As commercial ventures, they provide authentic working environments for students in training, as well as first-rate food produce and services and hair and beauty treatments to the public at highly competitive prices.
