Physics at Maiden Erlegh School

Course description

Physics is the most fundamental of all the Sciences. The work studied at AS and A2 gives students the background to allow them to analyse the most important of questions and helps them to come to their own conclusions. It helps us to understand the world from the tiniest, sub-atomic particles to the largest supernova. A background in Physics is a springboard to many careers from Chocolate production to Cosmology, from Financial services to Engineering. It is a prerequisite for many Engineering and Science courses and is seen as an affirmation of a sound intellect for many other courses.

Entry requirements

The most important attributes for a good Physics student are an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn more about the world around us. Students applying to study Physics in the Sixth Form must have gained grade B in Additional Science and the Physics component and a grade C in core Science. A grade B in Mathematics is also required and it is advantageous to study Mathematics at AS level.
