Manufacturing Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship at Colchester Institute
This course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within engineering manufacture. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve the (VCQ) NVQ Level 3 in a specific trade or technical field.
Performing Engineering Operations training that was gained during your level 2 Apprenticeship will provide a foundation to your Advanced Apprenticeship.
There is a choice of two Manufacturing Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship pathways:
- Technician – involved in technical matters and problem-solving
- Craft – skilled in practical trades including fabrication and welding
The VCQ (NVQ) Level 3 will relate to your specific trade, e.g. manufacturing, maintenance or design.
The course also includes:
- Technical Support
- Engineering Leadership
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT.
Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification and 4 GSCEs (grades A* – C) including English, maths and science. Candidates should also have a strong interest in the area of engineering and have already completed an Apprenticeship in the chosen area of study. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the work based learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a paper based trade assessment. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement.
Higher education opportunities may include the HNC/HND in Engineering at Colchester Institute. Career pathways may include progression to team leader or supervisory roles.
