Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 at Sandwell College

Course description

The course is specifically aimed at people who wish to start their career in hairdressing.

Course content

Training will take place in our state-of-the-art salons. Nine units will be studied including advising and consulting clients, shampooing and conditioning, styling hair and changing hair colour. All learners are allocated to a personal tutor who will set targets, track progress and offer support throughout the course.

You will have the opportunity to compete in the internal Level 2 competition and selected learners will be encouraged to enter regional and national competitions including World Skills through our gifted and talented programme.



Entry requirements

You should have 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above, preferably including Maths and English. You will also need to attend an interview and assessment prior to being accepted on the course.


All practical work is assessed in our professional training salons; you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence including photography of your work, written projects and online quizzes.

Future opportunities

Progression from this course would be to Hairdressing NVQ, Level 2, dependent on ability. You could also seek employment as a stylist in the hairdressing industry.
