Musical Theatre - Extended Diploma at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

If you have skills in singing, dancing and acting and you dream of performing in musical theatre shows, then this could be the course to help you develop your talents and realise your dreams. You need energy, commitment and enthusiasm and in return you will learn about the history and context of the industry, perform in college productions, and develop your vocal, physical and acting abilities. We attract students from Greater Manchester and beyond, due to our success and reputation in this subject area.

Course content

.This course is excellent preparation for either university or drama school and a career in the entertainment industry. You will study units such as:

  • Classical ballet technique
  • Singing techniques for performers
  • Musical theatre techniques
  • Jazz dance technique
  • Developing skills and techniques for live performance
  • Individual performance commission
  • Tap dance technique
  • Group performance workshop

You will also learn employability skills

Entry requirements

 5 GCSE grades C/4s  - Plus audition


You will study 13 units over the two years that are continually assessed and moderated. The course is mainly practical but you will also undertake academic units and may support your practical studies with logs, essays and research projects, Some unit tasks are externally set and assessed.  

Financial information

All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen.

Future opportunities

Many of our students gain places at prestigious drama schools around the country such as LAMDA and RADA, in fact our learners are so highly regarded that many drama schools come to the college to hold auditions such as ALRA, Guilford School of Acting Conservatoire and LIPA. You can also study performing arts related subjects at university.
