History at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

Each unit consists of a historical period, issue, event or individual chosen from a list of options.

  • AS Unit 1: The Norman Conquest and the Angevin Empire
  • AS Unit 2: Henry VIII Power Nation and Authority
  • A2 Unit 3: The Challenge of Fascism - From Kaiser to Fuhrer
  • A2 Unit 4: Historical Enquiry.

    During your A Level course you will learn:

  • about the significance of events, individual, issues and societies in history.
  • How and why societies have changed over time
  • About the theories of historians and the language that they use it discuss their ideas
  • To develop an understanding of how the past has been interpreted and represented
  • To plan and carry out an investigation into an area of historical interest.

  • Entry requirements

    You do not need to have studied History at GCSE to take an A Level in the subject. A number of topics are developments from GCSE but there are also plenty which will be new to most students. It is more important that you have an enquiring mind, an interest in the past and its relevance to current affairs and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. A grade B or higher in English and in History or another Humanities subject is required for A Level study but all applications are considered on an individual basis.
