Course description

This is a great choice if you’re excited by the world of art and design but are keen to explore a range of different fields before specialising in a particular one.

The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design is a two year Level 3 course which is a relevant qualification in preparing you for working in industry or progressing on to university. This course is an alternative route to A-level Art as it requires no time-constrained exam.

Course content

You will gain valuable practical skills which explore and develop your skills in an array of mediums including; drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture and visual communication. This course helps you find out what intrigues you the most in art and design.

This multi-disciplinary course gives an engaging practical introduction to materials, techniques and processes, helping you to develop your learning and communication skills, as well as your understanding of contemporary creative thinking.

Entry requirements

Grade B in Art and Design GCSE and a grade C in GCSE English. Students entering the Level 3 Applied General Pathway must have an APS of 37 or above.

Internally set schemes of work covering:

Unit 1- Introduction to visual language in art and design

Unit 2 - Introduction to research skills in art and design

Unit 3 - Introduction to critical and contextual awareness in art and design

Unit 4 - Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills in art and design

Unit 5 - An integrated approach to 2D problem solving in art and design

Unit 6 - An integrated approach to 3D problem solving in art and design

Unit 7 - An integrated approach to time-based problem solving

Unit 8 - Developing an art and design project
