Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship at Grimsby Institute

Course description

Heavy Vehicle Mechanics may specialise as Diesel Mechanics.

Diesel Mechanics service, repair and overhaul the mechanical parts of large diesel earthmoving and agricultural equipment such as bulldozers, graders and tractors, trucks and buses.

On the Advanced Apprenticeship you will learn about more complex faults and how to identify and repair them using sophisticated diagnostic equipment.

Vehicle repair is challenging, hands-on work, every vehicle will present a new problem to solve.

Entry requirements

Most occupations require a minimum of grade C in English, Maths and ICT, although some only require a minimum of grade D.

Some occupations within the Engineering sector will require Science at a minimum of grade C.

A Vocational Assessment may have to be taken and passed for some Apprenticeships before acceptance onto the programme.

Assessment

Training is delivered on a day release basis at the Institute where a Tutor will monitor
your progress. You will be allocated an Assessor who will conduct assessments in the
workplace.
