Course description

Aim of the Course
The BTEC First Diploma in Vehicle Technology is designed for people who are interested in working with motor vehicles, and who wish to develop a grounding in the necessary skills and understanding to help them either enter employment or move on to further vocational education and training. There are three core units and a range of specialist units to choose from, which will provide you with a total of 360 guided learning hours. Depending on your locally available education centre, the structure of the course can allow you to focus on your interests and explore new subjects. Areas you may wish to focus on could include: routine vehicle maintenance, engineering skills for vehicle repair or vehicle valeting.

Course Content
Unit One: Essential working practices.

Unit Two: Vehicle electrical and electronic principals.

Unit Three: Engineering skills for vehicle repair.

Unit Five: Vehicle engine principals and operation.

Unit Six: Vehicle layout and operations of vehicle systems. Unit Nine: Routine vehicle maintenance.

Unit Eleven: Principals and maintenance of vehicle wheels, tyres, steering and suspension systems.

Unit Twelve: Operation and repair of vehicle barking systems.

Unit Thirteen: Inspection and replacement of vehicle exhaust systems.

Skills Required

Students must have a thirst for knowledge and an interest in this particular subject. Students need to able to work well on their own and in team situations. They will undertake a number of practical and written tasks in order to successfully complete this course.

Entry requirements

You should have the interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification and ideally be able to show you have a standard of literacy, numeracy and general education equivalent to four GCSEs graded D-G.
