Performing Arts - BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts at Calderdale College

Course description

The course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to progress onto a BTEC Level 3 Diploma course in Performing Arts, it is a practical course with the emphasis on acting and performing.

Course content

Through practical workshops and further study you will explore the performing arts gaining confidence and skills/ tools required for your chosen progression route.

You will be involved in two productions during the year which are performed in the Empty Space Theatre at the College. You will be given the opportunity to visit London on our annual trip, visiting theatres and watching a West Endshows.

Entry requirements

An intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grades D or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification.  This could be a BTEC Introductory Diploma, a City and Guilds qualification, an NVQ Level 1, a GNVQ Foundation or relevant work experience. Applicants without formal academic qualifications would be considered based on an audition and/or attendance at a selection workshop.

Assessment

The Production Project is externally assessed, all other units are assessed internally.  Process and practical skills will be assessed through working logs and notebooks in which students will maintain an ongoing evaluation of practical work and through tutor observation of practical activities and performances.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

It is anticipated that completing this course you will progress to a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts, in either Acting, Musical Theatre or Dance. Career opportunities within the performance industries include: Acting for Stage, Film & Television, Stage Direction, Stage Management, Radio & Television work, Theatre in Education, Dance and Musical Theatre.
