BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport at King Edward VI College, Nuneaton

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 course looks at opportunities within the Sport and Leisure Industry and will cover a variety of areas such as: coaching, psychology, physiology, health and fitness promotion and sports development. The course is designed to suit students wishing to progress onto HE or careers in sporting performance, sports development, coaching or teaching.

Entry requirements

Standard college entry requirement. A general interest in the sport industry and practical sport will also be essential.


Assessment is through coursework portfolios, a combination of written and ptractical research, and some external exams.

Financial information

Students will need to purchase College kit (approx.£70). There will also be visits to various relevant sports organizations and facilities.

Future opportunities

Participants successfully completing the course may wish to progress further with education onto Foundation Degrees or Degrees such as Teaching, Sports Science, Sport Studies and Sport Therapy. Alternatively employment within the sports areas such as: Personal Trainer, Sports Coaches, Activity Leaders or Sport Development.

The 2 year programme is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Some of your time on the course will consist of practical sport. You will study 18 units. Mandatory units: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Coaching, Sport Development, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Practical Sport. Optional units may include: Sports Nutrition,Sports injury, Sports Coaching, Psychology for Sport Performance, Exercise, Health and Lifestyle.
