Design and Technology: Textiles AS and A level at Chace Community School
Students are encouraged to take a broad view of design and technology through the exploration of textiles techniques. The course enables students to develop their capacity to design and make textile products and gives an understanding of the relationship between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.
The Technology Department will be pleased to consider all students who have achieved a minimum C grade Textiles or Graphics.
The assessment for AS comprises a two hour written paper and coursework. The written paper is based primarily on Materials and Components and the coursework may take a number of forms; a single design-and-make project, two smaller projects and/or portfolio of work.
In A2 the assessment comprises a two hour written paper based primarily on Design and Manufacture and the coursework which consists of a single, substantial designing and making activity.
There are opportunities for students to extend their studies of textiles at university and college. At present there are courses which range from the creative such as an art and design foundation course or fashion design to the more technical aspects like textiles manufacturing and processing and pattern cutting. Following on from such courses are a variety of employment opportunities in the textile industry.
