NVQ Level 2/ Diploma in Nail Services at Picassos Training Academy

Would you like to be a Nail Technician? This is an exciting, dynamic course delivered with City and Guilds Awarding Body which will provide you with all the essential skills to become an outstanding therapist.
Your course is delivered within practical and theory elements ensuring you develop strong underpinning knowledge, skill and ability which will prepare you for the industry. We expect commitment and motivation from you and in return we will provide you with a stimulating environment, learning from the highly qualified tutors who work hard to assist and support you. A key aspect of your training is to gain strong commercial experience, we provide you with an exclusive opportunity to work in our state of the art salon and build your client base whilst receiving support and guidance from your tutor.
Courses are available on both a full time and part time basis with evenings and weekend options. The best option for you will be identified and discussed within your interview. The government state that all 16-18 must be enrolled on a three day fulltime course, this then gives you the opportunity to attend additional courses, part time. To give you an example, if you choose to do hairdressing but also wish to do Beauty Therapy you can enrol on both.
There is also an opportunity to link in previous qualifications recognised with prior learning achievements.
Continuing into this exciting and creative world, this course is designed to give you the skill and knowledge of a professional nail technician. The course is broken down into mandatory units which will make up the core aspects of your qualification. The following units will be covered:
- G20-Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
- G18-Promote additional services or products to clients
- G8-Devlop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- G4 Fulfil salon reception duties
- N2-Provide manicure services
- N3- Provide pedicure services
- N4-Carry out nail art services
- N5-Apply and maintain nail enhancements to create a natural finish
The course is available to anyone aged 16+. Ideally you will have 3 GCSE’S grades C/D including Maths and English however it is not essential as Picassos offers additional classes within Functional Skills that may be mandatory for your achievement within the course. You will undergo an Initial Assessment upon your Induction week; this will enable Picassos to support your development within Functional Skills and general learning. Picassos seeks individuals whom of which are highly motivated, professional, well presented and committed to their studies.

Learners will be assessed against the Awarding Body criteria; this will include a variety of assessment methods such as written papers and oral questioning which will demonstrate your underpinning knowledge. Practical assessments will be performed on clients within commercial salon; this will require you to meet minimum standards and commercial acceptable timings set by the Awarding Body. Homework such as written assignments and research activities will also be set to enhance your development and learning.
If you are 16-18 years old there will be no course fees to pay. You will be required to purchase a uniform consisting of tunic, trousers and shoes. You will also be required to purchase a kit, a full kit breakdown including costing and an order form will be provided within the interview.

Being a student of Picassos/Bradford College we are able to provide and offer financial advice and support including bursaries and grants. Details will be provided upon the Induction week. This will include various concessionary passes.
Picassos offer monthly payment instalments, details of this may be discussed within your interview.

Upon successful completion you will be encouraged to progress onto NVQ Level 3 Hair, you may also choose to progress onto Barbering. There is also the opportunity to progress onto NVQ Level 2 Nail Services or Beauty Therapy. You may progress into employment as a stylist or a Level 3 apprenticeship within a salon.

Picassos offers many learner enrichments opportunities within the Hair, Beauty, Nails and Barbering industry. Some of these opportunities include the Picassos Yearly Fashion Show which enables unit observations, developing your creative flair and building your portfolio of skills for future employment. Picassos also participate in Match Fit competitions leading on to World Skills Competition. Ensuring Picassos is at the cutting edge meeting industry demands we have built strong employment links with various leading companies such as Steiner, Dermalogica, Wella, Shared Beauty Secrets and Airbase to name but a few. Regular demonstrations, recruiting days and additional training are provided in-house for you by these amazing companies.
Recognising the importance of supporting charities Picassos is delighted to run a wide variety of fundraising events throughout the year. In the past these charities have included Children in Need, Bliss for Babies, Wakefield Hospice to name but a few.
