Engineering (Fabrication & Welding and Mechanical Pathways) City and Guilds Diploma Level 3 at Derwentside College

Course description

The qualification ensures that the candidate has practical as well as theoretical knowledge of Engineering in their selected pathway. The qualification is also recognised as a Technical Certificate for the Advanced Apprentice Framework

Course content

The Qualification is awarded on successful completion of 6 units:-

  • Engineering Health and Safety
  • Engineering Principles
  • Principles of Fabrication and Welding
  • Principles of Mechanical Manufacturing
  • CNC Machining
  • Producing drawings using CAD
  • MIG Welding
  • TIG Welding
  • Pattern development for Fabrication

Entry requirements

To join a Level 3 programme you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, to include English Language, Maths or Science.


There is an on-line multiple choice question paper. Internal assessments form an integral part of the unit syllabus and take the form of practical and knowledge exercises.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course learners could progress to: Students can progress to Higher Education Qualifications (HNC/D) subject to completion of additional units or an Apprenticeship. Career Opportunities
