Wood Occupations Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at City College Plymouth
Are you more hands on than academic? Have you ever seen the result of someones DIY at home and think you could do a better job? Have you ever thought about a career in construction? You will need to have an eye for detail, good maths skills for measuring and working out angles and be able to follow technical drawings and plans. Carpentry is not an easy option, there's a lot of hard work involved, but if that doesn't put you off it may be the Apprenticeship for you! As an Apprentice you will gain valuable experience and occupational competence within you workplace setting. You will be employed and, under supervision, your job would include working in one of the following settings:
• Large Building Site
• Private Houses
• Commercial premises
You will need to achieve a set numbercredits from completing mandatory units and a selection of optional units. By the end of your apprenticeship you will have evidenced competence in the specified range of vocational skills.
You will also have to complete Functional Skills Level 1 in maths and English, Employment Responsibilities and Rights and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
Acceptance on this course will be determined through completion of English and maths Functional Skill entry assessments at the Work-based Learning and Schools Partnership department at the College. Vocational assessment is carried out by the Wood Occupations team.
There are exams, but these will be when your tutor feels you are ready. You will also be observed and continually assessed, both on and off the job to record your practical skills and knowledge.
You can progress on to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations or employment opportunities with a vast range of organisations.
