Maths at Maltby Academy

Course description

This is a modular course consisting of 6 units: Core Mathematic, Statistics and Mechanics. TheCore Maths element of the course is designed to extend students work at GCSE and introduce new mathematical topics. The Applied Units (Statistics 1 and Mechanics 1) look at using these ideas in a wide variety of different contexts.

Maths skills touch every part of modern society and people with strong maths skills are in high demand worldwide. Graduates with a Maths based degree are usually quite well paid.

Course content

What is included?

  • Pure Maths - Proof, algebra, functions, coordinate geometry, sequences, trigonometry, differentiation, intergration and vectors
  • Mechanics - An application of maths that looks at many topics including how forces act on objects in motion


Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 8 Maths. GCSE Grade 7 considered.


Assessment by 3 exams each 2 hours and of equal weighting

Future opportunities

With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer, Financial Advisor or Teacher. You could take this course with other advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in areas of Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and financial sectors.
