Physical Education AS at Ysgol Y Strade

Course description

The course is 50% practical and 50% theory. During the two year course, students will have the opportunity to improve their personal performance, train other students and younger pupils and manage groups and team within the school. Students will learn about the relationship between lifestyle choices, health and fitness within practical contexts. They will also have the opportunity to visit Universities that specialise in Physical Education and Sport as well as participate in a wealth of extra curricular activities e.g. team competitions, school sports and various related courses.

Course content

PE1:

  • Practical Performance (30%)
  • Profile of Personal Performance (10%)
  • Coaching or Refereeing (10%)

PE2:

  • Methods of LivinG
  • Participation in Practical Activities
  • Nutrition for performance and Health
  • Benefits in ways of living.

Entry requirements

Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have at least a C in Physical education GCSE and Additional Science.

Assessment

PE1: Exam/ External assessment

PE2: Written Examination 1 hr 45 m
