Dance BTEC at Wolverley CofE Secondary School

Course description

The course is equivalent to 1 A level. This course is 100% coursework and involves improving performance skills through solo and group rehearsal and performance in addition to learning the skills that underpin choreography and analysis through looking at Professional pieces.

Students will have the opportunity to plan, choreograph and perform in a variety of settings and learn about various strands of Dance.

During the course all students will also develop their research and analysis skills and improve both their written and verbal literacy skills through learning about key choreographers and styles.

During the course Students will complete the following mandatory units:

- Unit 7: Performing to an Audience
- Unit 38: Dance Performance

Students will be in consultation with their teacher who will choose 4 optional units from a comprehensive list based on the learner`s skills or areas of interest.

Entry requirements

It is preferable that the student has studied either GCSE or Level 2 BTEC Dance or has experience of Dance. Exceptions are at the discretion of the course leader.

Future opportunities

Students who study BTEC Level 3 Dance can progress to a Degree in one of the many disciplines in Dance. Students can take PGCE qualifications to teach Dance in the classroom or as a private Dance Teacher. Students can also use what they learn on the BTEC course to gain an apprenticeship within a Dance related business or apply transferrable skills.
