Sociology A Level at Oakbank School

Course description

At AS level you will cover the topics Education with Sociological Research Methods and Family & Households. Within these modules, you will examine contemporary trends and develop knowledge and evaluative skills of sociological theories.

At Advanced level you will build upon the skills you learnt at AS level and study two different areas of Sociology – Global Development and Crime & Deviance. You will also have the opportunity to carry out several pieces of Sociological research for the Methods in Context module.

Entry requirements

5 or more GCSEs, with a grade C preferable in English Language.


At AS and Advanced level, you will be assessed on a regular basis via written assignments, tests, presentations and mock exams.

Formal assessment leading to AS and Advanced qualifications will be via modular examinations set by the AQA exam board in January and May/June of each academic year.
