Media: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production (Block D) at The Folkestone Academy

Course description

The qualification provides a coherent introduction to the study of creative digital media production at this level. Learners develop an understanding of the media industry through analysing media representations and pitching and producing media projects. The content of the qualification relates directly to the skills and understanding needed for further study in creative digital media production and has been developed in consultation with higher education.

Over the three mandatory units, you will gain a broad understanding of the subject and learn the skills to produce media products. You will develop an ability to analyse and deconstruct media images and representations. You will acquire the communication and planning skills needed to work in teams through vocational media projects.

The optional introductory unit in film will allow you to create your own engaging digital media product. A wide range of resources are available, including professional HD cameras, Apple Mac computers and green screen equipment. To be successful on this course you will need to be a determined and enthusiastic self-starter with creative flair, good communication skills and a high degree of flexibility.

Entry requirements

GCSE at Grade 5+ or BTEC/NCFE at Merit+ in an artistic discipline, as well as Grade 4+ in GCSE English. Candidates without a Level 2 qualification in an artistic discipline will be considered through interview.

Future opportunities

This qualification will support entry to HE courses in a very wide range of disciplines, depending on the subjects taken alongside. Although a significant proportion of recruitment in this sector is at graduate level by studying this qualification you will develop your communication skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively.

You will develop your knowledge of digital processes and software through practical projects which will give you an advantage if applying for entry level roles in marketing such as a marketing assistant, media sales as well as working as publishing assistants, updating websites and hosting content.
