Assessment

The qualification is based on 100% internally assessed coursework, so no exams! However it is mandatory that you participate successfully in work experience placement within two different Health and Social Care settings.

All the units that make up the qualification will be graded either at the level of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

  • Achieving a Pass for each unit means you have shown the knowledge and skills required to cover the Pass criteria for the units. This may be through presentations, descriptions and case studies.
  • At Merit Level, you will add more depth and explanations to your work to show your deeper understanding.
  • At Distinction Level your work shows you can make judgments, justify your ideas and come to clear conclusions.

You can obtain different grades for the different units e.g. you could achieve a Pass for Unit 1 but achieve a Merit for Unit 2 and so on.  Your overall grade will depend on how you have performed across all of the units and how many Credits you have accrued.

Future opportunities

Studying Health and Social Care at Level 3 will give you more in-depth knowledge about the Health and Social Care industry and open up more job opportunities for you in a more supervisory role. This can include team leaders in Nursery work, Support work or Health Assistant work. This will also count towards your UCAS points to go into Higher Education for degrees in areas such as; Nursing, Child Care, Counsellor, Social Workers, Care Managers, Occupational therapist, Psychologist, Translator, Nutritional Therapist, Physiotherapist, Youth support work and Teaching.

Whilst Health and Social Care qualifications are important for many careers, it is important to realise that qualifications in subjects such as Maths and English are often important. Often Health and Social Care professionals need to keep records and write reports, as well as explain ideas and work within teams. Depending on the job, employers may look for commercial awareness, communication skills, creativity, organisation skills and IT competence. All these skills are likely to be gained from gaining a good qualification in a range of subjects and from participation in work experience.
