Child Care and Education - CACHE Level 3 Diploma at Isle of Man College
The Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education is designed for those wishing to pursue a career working with children ages 0-16 years. This course is also an alternative/vocational way, to gain the necessary UCAS points and experience, to go on to teaching.
The course consists of a range of core subjects relating to working with children and young people, and their families including:
Child Development Theories
Observation and Assessment of Children
Supporting Children's Health Care Needs
Play, Learning and Curriculum
Child Protection and Legislation
Diversity and Inclusion
Development of Professional Practice
Plus optional units.
The entry requirements are five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. The course is most suitable for students with a sound educational background, good English skills and a genuine desire to work with children and young people.
Mature students will be considered on individual merit and experience. Experience of working with children and young people is advantageous.
All candidates will be required to have a police (CRB) check to ensure that they are suitable to work with children.
Students are required to spend 50% of their time in child care settings gaining experience and 50% in College studying theory. Assessment is on a continuous basis and the course is assessed in a variety of ways.
Each student has to successfully complete:
Theory - 5 mandatory assignments, 3 optional assignments, 3 portfolios, a short answer test and a research project.
Practice - a practice evidence record diary, practice evidence records, professional development profiles and a placement summary to show that they have completed the required placement experience.
