Level 1 City & Guilds - Professional Chef Catering Certificate at Telford College Of Arts And Technology - TCAT

Course description

This qualification will help you to develop the cookery skills needed
for a number of jobs and careers which involve the planning and
preparation of food. You will learn skills within the Hospitality &
Catering industry including the preparation, cooking and presenting
of different food groups, such as meat, poultry, fish and vegetables.
You will have real hands on work experience not only through
our own first class restaurant “The Orange Tree” but also within
high profile establishments across the Midlands. Full Time Study
Programmes are built around a collection of key elements which
all students benefit from, these include:
 
• Main Qualification in the subject of your choice
• English & mathematics qualifications for all students who have not
yet achieved A*- C grade in either subject
• Work Experience or External Work Placement which is planned
with you at the start of your course and links to your career goals
and ambitions
• Weekly Tutorial with your personal tutor
• A wide range of Enrichment Activities to support your broader
skills, such as team work or communication

Entry requirements

2 GCSE E-F English & Maths D or below 

Assessment

Units are assessed throughout the year through assignments,
coursework, observation of practical activity and exams.

Future opportunities

This qualification can lead to employment within public houses, wine
bars, restaurants, small catering businesses, event and function
catering and guest houses/small hotels or an Apprenticeship. You
could also work as a commis chef within local restaurants, cafes,
hotels and hospitality providers.

Further information

Study within our brand new professional kitchens, work alongside
our professional chef lecturers. In addition a range of trips and
visits will support academic work within the programme,
including the opportunity to travel to Europe. Check out

activities (trips and workshops) these will be at an extra cost.
