Course description

Core Creative and Media

The Core Creative and Media allows you to learn valuable skills in different situations. You will learn about the key themes in creativity and how to think and work creatively. This includes seeing a project through from start to finish, identifying an audience and their needs and learning about the business side of the creative and media industries.

You will work on a number of projects within the unit title, these allow you to explore creative ideas and ways of working. The course includes visits from industry professionals to be involved in your projects who work in the creative media industries including, musicians, graphic designers, producers, radio, theatre, photographers, animators, web design, film producers, script writers, and actors.

The course involves exploring the use of, and producing blogs, podcasts, animations, films, drama and dance performances, advertising, marketing, event management, graphic design, photography, radio advertisements and websites.

The course opportunities also include exploring and learning the basics of industry computer software including Photoshop and Final cut express.

Extended Project:

You will also get the opportunity for one day a week work experience placement for ten weeks. This placement is related to your personal interests and linked to your personal project.

Functional Skills:

Students will follow a course in Functional Skills in ICT, Maths and English

Additional/Prior Learning:

To complete this element students will need to have (in addition to their GCSE qualifications in Mathematics & English Language) a minimum of two other GCSE subjects at grade A*-C.

Future opportunities

The first step towards a career in any aspect of creative and media industry as well as a wide range of possibilities involving working with people and or using organisational skills in other vocational areas.

Further information

To receive the full Diploma Certificate students will need to fulfil the criteria of each component part i.e. Core Creative & Media, the Extended Project, Functional Skills and Additional/ Prior Learning.

If the full Award criteria are not met students will still receive awards/certification for the relevant components.
