Foundation Pathway Level 2 at St John's Catholic Comprehensive School

Course description

What is the Foundation Pathway?

This programme is ideal for students who wish to continue their education in a school environment but do not meet the entry requirements for Level 3 study; it is also suitable for those wishing to enter employment working with members of the public, providing a foundation to Level 3 programmes, apprenticeships or employment.

Course content

Students study GCSE English and/or Maths alongside a Level 2 BTEC course in either Public Services or Retail. Work skills and ICT are also incorporated along with one days work experience in the area of BTEC study chosen.

The BTEC course requires students to pass all units some of which are external.


Entry requirements

Internal candidates - 95% + attendance and a positive A2L.

External candidates – 95% + attendance and a Head of Year reference

Future opportunities

Students can continue to study in the sixth form following Level 3 courses or can enter further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Students benefit from a structures timetable and access to regular support and feedback. They will also be assisted in career’s guidance and follow on destination routes.


Please Note:

All elements of the course must be completed to a satisfactory level in order to continue at Level 3 in the sixth form.
