The course you will undertake depends on your results from year 11 and which one best meets your needs. There is an opportunity to sit the examination in November depending upon year 11 results.

L2 Functional Skills

English L2 aims to promote transferable reading and writing skills that can be applied to everyday situations and the world of work.

iGCSE

iGCSE English helps students develop a knowledge and understanding of texts, how to write and read texts with explicit and implicit meanings using a variety of techniques.

GCSE

GCSE English develops a knowledge and understanding of texts, how to write and read texts using a variety of techniques.

Entry requirements

GCSE English below C grade

Assessment

Functional Skills

Comprised of a written and a reading examination both worth 40% and a speaking and listening assessment worth 20%

iGCSE

Comprised of a written portfolio of 3 pieces written for 3 different purposes which is worth 40% and a reading paper worth 40%. There is also a speaking and listening assessment worth 20%.

GCSE

Comprised of a written portfolio of 5 pieces which is worth 40% and one examination testing both reading and writing skills worth 60%.
