Course description

Weymouth College has purpose-built welding facilities offering you an excellent learning environment.

Course content

• Working safely in an engineering environment • Working effectively and efficiently in engineering • Using and communicating technical information • Using TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) • Using MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding equipment • Using MIG (Metal Inert Gas) • Using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) equipment.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or above including maths and/or science or equivalent

Assessment

You will be assessed by coursework.

Welding in specialist areas can lead to an extensive career in: • Pipeline • Pipemills • Process industry • Heavy industry • Offshore • Ship building • Maintenance and repair • Transportation. Completion of level 2 may lead to level 3 qualifications in welding and fabrication, engineering or apprenticeships in welding and fabrication.
