French, German and Spanish AS/A2 at Onslow St Audrey`s School

Course description

Studying a Modern Language allows
you to understand the spoken and
written word while increasing your
confidence when communicating
your own ideas and opinions in the target language. You also gain an insight into
contemporary society, its issues and the culture of the countries
where the languages are spoken. Students who have achieved well
at GCSE are actively encouraged to continue their studies to a
more advanced level.
At AS Level students are assessed on two units: a Speaking unit and
a combined unit involving Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar.
In the second year A2 students will continue the Speaking, Reading,
Listening and Writing elements to prepare for two units which
explore Culture and Society at a deeper level. Again there is a
combined skill unit and an oral unit.
A Modern Language will complement any combination of subjects
at Advanced Level and students can progress to a wide variety of
single honours degrees or joint honours with subjects including
Law, English, Business, Science or History. A language qualification
can also be a real asset in a variety of occupations where
communication skills are in demand.
