Product Design: Graphic Products AS/A Level at Prendergast - Hilly Fields College

Course description

An A-Level in Product Design & Graphic Products gives students the opportunity to creatively develop their designing and manufacturing skills in both subjects. Students will develop their knowledge in existing product design & graphic design, use a variety of communication methods to convey their ideas by hand and on the computer and to develop manufacturing / modelling skills. The department has state of the art facilities and the students use industry standard software to realise their design work.

Course content

Year 12  - Autumn term

Mirror Stand project Students manufacture a plywood and Aluminium mirror stand using a variety of hand tools, equipment and CAD/ CAM machines to develop making skills for A2.

Penguin Donkey re-design Students decide on a brief to re-design a design classic by Isokon using their Penguin Donkey as the starting point.

Spring term

Examination Theory Materials & Components Design & Market Influences Processes & Manufacture

Summer term Start A2 Major Design & Manufacture Project.

Year 13 - Autumn & Spring term

A2 Major Design & Manufacture Project. A2 Design & Manufacture theory Summer term Exam revision

Entry requirements

Grade C equivalent in GCSE Product Design, Resistant Materials or Graphic Products or Art is preferable. If you do not have a GCSE in one of these subjects a portfolio of work to demonstrate your commitment may be required to access the course.
