Sociology (A Level) at Broadway Academy

Course description


AS and A-level Sociology will give you an understanding of individuals and their place within wider society. The impact of social institutions on the individual and the inequalities that exist in the modern world. You will study a range of topics such as education, families and households, beliefs in society and crime and deviance. You will explore how sociologists create theories from these topics to explain human behaviour and the workings of society.

5 GCSEs grade A* - C  (including English)


The exam board used for Sociology is AQA. There are two exams at AS each worth 50% of your AS qualification. Each exam lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and consist of short and extended questions. Family and Households and Education and Methods in context are worth 60 marks.

At A-level there are three exams, each account for one third of your A-level. The three exams last 2 hours and are worth 80 marks each. The exams consist of short and extended writing questions. Even if you are taking the full A-level you will be expected to sit the AS exam. If you do not gain at least a grade D you will not be able to continue with the full A-level.
