Theatre Technology Level 3 at Northbrook College Sussex

Course description

The course is designed for students interested in the technical support for all forms of theatre events, including musicals, plays, dance performance, concerts and gigs.

Students will support productions in The Northbrook Theatre and our new studio theatre as well as external events. Both our in-house theatres are fully resourced with professional standard lighting and sound equipment and supported by specialist theatre technicians.

You will learn how to plan, design, rig and operate the systems necessary for theatre and music production: sound, light, communications and projection.

If you have less that grade C in GCSE English or Maths, you will also study that subject at college.

Entry requirements

Relevant examples of your work to show at interview and


4 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English or Maths (if you have A* to C in English, your Maths
grade must be minimum D - or vice versa)

a relevant Level 2 qualification, including English and Maths requirements.


(If you do not have the above entry requirements, you may be able to start on the Level 2 course in Production before applying to move on to this Level 3 course.)

Future opportunities

After 1 year you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts.This means you can apply for the Extended Diploma course (below).

After 2 years you can achieve a University of the Arts London (UAL) Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses or seek work in industry. Students also apply to many other specialist courses at universities/drama schools. The qualification attracts 180, 280 and 420 UCAS tariff points for Pass, Merit and Distinction grades respectively.
