Art and Design: Textiles Design at Hillview School for Girls

Course description

A Level Art and Design: Textiles aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to successfully progess onto higher or further education courses in Fashion and Textiles or other Art disciplines.


 

Course content

Students will research primary and contextual sources, record practical and written observations, generate and develop ideas, experiment and develop their skills with various Textile and Fashion media and processes. Students will have access to an exciting array of equipment and technologies to refine their ideas towards producing a personal outcome. Over the duration of the course students will develop fashion design ideas, which may include digital designs with Photoshop.

In Year 12 the course requires students to develop and prepare a toile and build a sketch book of samples. Links are also made to the broader areas of fashion, such as marketing, promotion and

styling. The A Level Art and Design: Textiles course consists of two components.

 

  • Component 1, which makes up 60% of the mark, is in two parts: Practical work and Personal study.

  • Component 2 is the Externally Set Assignment, which makes up 40% of the mark.

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements to study three Level 3 qualifications for Hillview Sixth Form are Grade 5 in both English and Maths together plus 4.25 or above GCSE average point score. 

Students will need to have achieved the subject-specific entry requirements, which for Textiles is Grade 5 or above in Art & Design:  Textile design.

 

 

 

Future opportunities

This course can lead onto a wide range of Art and Design degree courses at university. In the past our students have gone on to study courses in Fashion: Design, Buying and Management, Styling, Tailoring, Communication and Textile: Design, Print, Surface Design, as well as Make-up Design, Costume Design, History of Fashion and many more.
