AS/A2 Geography at Queen Elizabeth School
It’s a fairly safe bet that most of us have, at some time or another, gazed at a stunning view of jagged mountains, or sea cliffs pounded by an angry sea, or got caught in a torrential downpour, or gazed in awe at downtown skyscrapers only to turn a corner to find a run down zone of crumbling houses. But have you ever considered why such landscapes are like this? Geography has been defined as “The study of the earth and its features and of the distribution of life on the earth, including human life and the effects of human activity,” and it seeks to explain why, how, and where such features have formed. It’s topical, and barely a day goes by without an aspect of the subject gaining media coverage, whether it is the construction of a local wind farm, or the varied consequences of global warming. If you’re curious by nature, and most of us are, and have a desire to find out more about the world and what makes it tick then Geography is the subject for you, and a qualification that you’ll almost certainly enjoy studying.
